The Sackler family. Opioids. Wealth. Addiction. This is a dark look behind the scenes of an influential and very private family. It added a lot of color to the opioid epidemic, while handling addiction delicately and without judgment. The book was so thoroughly researched and thoughtfully written. Even if it’s a topic you were uninterested in, Keefe did an excellent job weaving together an intricate narrative with a lot of characters; and made what could be a dry subject interesting without over-dramatizing it. Not a light or joyful read, but an important one.
