Meet Ariel, a beautiful mom of a 13 year old on vacation with her husband of one year. The majority of the novel takes place over two days/nights in Portugal and begins right when things turn south with her husband being kidnapped. Ariel helplessly alerts authorities but is largely left to her own devices to figure out what’s going on and find a solution. Ariel is nothing if not clever and resourceful, often leaning on some dark moments in her past to navigate the bizarre scenario she finds herself in. When things start to feel resolved, be ready for more twists. Each time I thought I had it figured out another plot twist came up. It was a fun and fast-paced read, just plausible enough to make it more intriguing. If you need a new thriller, add this to your list. Note: I listened to this one on audio and found it a little difficult to follow because the narrator switches several times a chapter with no warning, so it would take me a beat to re-adjust and figure out whose perspective I was listening to. I still liked it, but may have enjoyed in more in physical format. (TW: Sexual assault)
