This is the third installment in the Finaly Donovan series. I remember with the first one being pleasantly surprised when someone actually died near the beginning of the book (stay with me here), it changed it from a cheesy light chick lit book to a goofy cat and mouse story with an anti-hero. By book three I’m invested enough in the characters to stick with it, but I had to really convince myself to just enjoy the ride because it was so far-fetched. That’s probably more of my own problem, I mean, obviously the book is really far-fetched. But it felt really convenient. A bunch of cops taking a week off to teach a course to cilvilians, crabby old ladies showing up, hot lawyers too? Convenient. I had to stop analyzing that and just focus on the fun part, because it is a fun book! Fun dialogue and people *actually* getting murdered, kind of often too (which I’m saying is a good thing, in case that’s unclear). I feel a little bit like “are we still going?” because it certainly left on a note implying more to come, and quite frankly, I would’ve been fine with this ending in a trilogy.
