This has been on my TBR list forever. I’ve read two other Sue Monk Kidd books, loved one, lukewarm on the other. This was another “loved it” book. First, a few negatives (to me) are the setting- in a small town in the south in the 60’s, youth perspective, and with an abusive/emotionally inept father. The positives far outweight however. The book delves into race relations, grief and loss, confronting our truth, and finding answers within. One of the main characters is a bee keeper, and honestly, I would’ve enjoyed even *more* bee content. I’m endlessly fascinated by bees and would not have been disappointed if this ended up being a non-fiction book just about bees. The central theme is the power of femininity, rituals, and empowering supportive women. It’s a fairly quick read and beautifully written.
