In short, the main character strongly draws on a manuscript of a deceased friend of another ethnicity to write a book she takes full credit for. Cue moral dilemmas. This book will make you question a lot of things, like who should be telling a certain story, how does privilege affect outcomes, and a lot of “what is and isn’t ok” from an ethical and moral standpoint. It left me in a state of an internal conflict where I found myself switching sides back and forth with arguments on both sides of real-life examples I thought of and situations that came up in the book.
