I’m so glad I read this after reading Little Women, as it is a retelling. I wouldn’t have gotten any of the Little Women references otherwise. The first third of the book felt really flat to me. One dimensional characters and things were happening but I kept feeling like I missed something because it would talk about life events taking place but I had no attachment to the characters and they had no depth so I couldn’t figure out why I was supposed to be invested in marriages and deaths. The author eventually slows down and we get to know each character more individually. So I did like the last half but rated it lower because I was barely able to stick with it.
