“His Majesty’s Dragon” stands out among the dragon-themed books I’ve read, thanks largely to the endearing relationship between the dragon and his master. This charming bond is the heart of the book and adds dimension to the narrative. The author spends considerable time world-building, which, while impressive, can be a bit much if you’re not planning to continue with the series. While I enjoyed this book for its unique elements (retelling of history), I find the series a bit too lengthy for my taste and don’t plan to read the subsequent volumes. It was a fun read, but I would only recommend “His Majesty’s Dragon” if you’re ready to commit to the entire series, as the extensive world-building sets the stage for more to come.
