Last year, I began reading this book only to discover it was a sequel, so I paused to catch up with the first book, “Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone.” I do love a quirky murder mystery. The narrator, Ernest, is not just a character in these stories but also a murder mystery writer and sort of a “how-to” guru of the genre. He often finds himself in the thick of real mysteries, applying his narrative rules to solve them and then retell the tale.

The setup of this sequel: a group of mystery writers is invited on an elite train journey, and, inevitably, someone ends up dead. Although I found myself getting a bit lost among the characters this time around, the writing remained engaging and enjoyable. The premise—writers trapped with their own murder plot unfolding—is irresistibly fun.
