I needed a break from nonfiction for a minute, so I picked up another Sally Hepworth. I read The Mother-in-Law last year, and this was exactly the kind of read I was in the mood for.
Hepworth does such a good job of making the reality of one character feel completely believable, and then she slowly pulls the rug out from underneath you. She does not pull her punches. This story follows twins and alternates between their points of view. One of the sisters is neurodivergent, which means that as the reader you are constantly trying to figure out what is accurate, what is misunderstood, and what might be missing altogether.
It was quick-paced, engaging, and quietly unsettling. I am not totally sure what genre label to give it, but it was tense, compelling, and exactly what I was in the mood for!
