This was a first-time read for me. I know! And I totally get why it’s a classic. Set on the gorgeous Prince Edward Island, the story follows Anne, an orphan who is mistakenly sent to the wrong home, but really the right home all along.
Anne is dreamy, imaginative, and full of feeling, and she turns out to be exactly what the aging siblings Marilla and Matthew need when they become her caretakers. The book is charming, and I found myself smiling often at Anne’s musings and inner world.
We get to follow her growing up, forming relationships with classmates, and eventually becoming the head of her class. It feels warm and hopeful. There’s clearly a lot more Anne where this came from, and I could see myself continuing the series at some point.
