If it’s not obvious from the title, this is a book for therapists, specifically EMDR therapists. If that’s you, read on.

As a clinician who has been practicing EMDR for several years, I found this book both validating and practical. It’s full of helpful scripts for resourcing, useful analogies, and, most importantly, an honest breakdown of what EMDR therapy actually looks like when we’re working with clients who have complex trauma or C-PTSD. It’s rarely clean-cut or “brief,” despite what some early trainings might imply.

Zimmerman does a great job normalizing the messiness of this work and offering a clear, thoughtful roadmap for increasing effectiveness with this population. I appreciated both the realism and the practicality. Highly recommended for EMDR clinicians wanting a more grounded approach to complex cases.
