Talk about a surprise gem. A novella set in the future in a post-machine world, a non-binary tea monk is in search of reconnecting to nature. Instead he has a chance encounter with a “wild-built” robot. Centuries before, robots became self-aware and made an agreement with humanity to go off on their own and not to be contacted or bothered. Robots were gone so long from culture they became more myth and legend than reality. What ensues is a relationship between robot and monk that is both philosophical and charming. You’ll find yourself asking deeper questions about yourself and life while also smiling at a robot trying to cook for the first time. Could not recommend this enough.
