I think this was my 4th read of Braving the Wilderness. I think I’ve read all of Brene Brown’s books at this point and this is my favorite, the one I keep returning to. I recommended it to a client a few weeks ago and when he came back in he was so excited to talk about it that it made me want to read it again. I always get something else from it on each re-read. It’s a beautiful idea: that we can’t belong anywhere until we belong to ourselves. Brown quotes Maya Angelou several times, “You are only free when you realize you belong no place—you belong every place—no place at all. The price is high. The reward is great.” I love that idea that if we delve into our own inner-work, stand firm in our values, and practice vulnerability, we brave our own wilderness and then we can belong.
