This book follows a music critic as she comes of age, and as a fellow millennial, I found a lot of it incredibly nostalgic. It starts in the early aughts and weaves through the music and cultural moments of that era and beyond. I’m not sure it would land the same way if you’re not a millennial, but for me, it hit.

The main character is hyper-critical, it’s her whole thing, which can be impressive and frustrating. She’s sharp but often gets in her own way. What I appreciated most was how the story spans decades, so we really get to watch the three central characters and their relationships evolve. That said, it did feel a little whiny at times. Still, if you’re into character-driven novels with a heavy dose of musical nostalgia, it’s worth picking up.
