A sequel to The Fourth Wing, Iron Flame is, first off, long. Close to 29 hours (if listening). I found myself getting annoyed with Violet for most of the book, whereas I liked her and was rooting for her in the first one. This one is heavy on the spicy romance scenes, which isn’t really my thing. The romance storyline in this one felt really drawn out and juvenile. Granted, this is “new adult” so that probably is more in line with how young 20-somethings are behaving, but I don’t need to be involved in the nitty gritty. You learn more of the dragon lore in this novel which I think is fun, although if you start pulling on any particular thread plot holes are exposed. I don’t know if I’ll keep going with the series or not after this one, I believe there are to be 5 total. This one felt rushed and like it was published unpolished, hopefully the next one goes through more rigorous editing.
