I think this is an excellent parenting book that builds off their earlier work, The Whole-Brain Child. The authors, Daniel Siegel (a psychiatrist and professor) and Tina Payne Bryson (a psychotherapist and expert in brain-based parenting), present techniques focused on de-escalating, connecting, and then guiding behavior rather than punishing it.
A central idea is that parents sometimes need to de-escalate themselves first so they can connect before redirecting.
I love that this method leans less on consequences and more on helping a child learn self-regulation of emotions and behavior, skills that will serve them for life.
