Oona Out of Order – Margarita Montimore

Every New Year’s Day, Oona wakes up in a different year of her life. No warning. No explanation.

She might be chronologically 25 but wake up living a year as her 55-year-old self. The next year she could be 26 and suddenly find herself back in her early twenties. Her life unfolds completely out of order.

It’s such a unique premise, and Montimore executes it beautifully. The story is clever, surprising, and full of twists I didn’t see coming.

What I loved most, though, was how it made me reflect on my own life. Oona experiences milestones, relationships, and regrets in such an unusual sequence that it forces you to think differently about time and appreciation.

It’s been years since I read this book and I still find myself thinking about it. That’s always the sign of a good one.

Best for: Readers who love inventive storytelling and time-bending premises
Vibe: Thoughtful, twisty, slightly magical
