Project Hail Mary – Andy Weir
I read this when it first came out and loved every minute of it. It’s still one of my most recommended books when someone asks for something fun and gripping that almost anyone will enjoy.
We wake up with Ryland Grace, who has no memory of who he is or how he ended up alone in a very strange environment. As his memory slowly returns, the reader pieces things together alongside him, which makes the whole experience incredibly engaging.
It’s definitely science-heavy, but in the best way. I’m no scientist, but Weir has a gift for diving into complex physics and making it feel surprisingly digestible.
The main character is a lot of fun, and things get even better when another character is introduced (no spoilers here).
The whole book is riveting, inventive, and surprisingly heartfelt. And just when you start wondering if the ending can possibly live up to everything that came before it, Weir absolutely nails it.
I’ll be recommending this one forever.
