I’ve been on a dive into learning more about ADHD. It comes up a lot in my work, but it is not necessarily a specialty area of mine. I thought this book was excellent. Maté does a much deeper dive into the origins of ADHD and theorizes that it is part biological and a large part attachment based. As with many authors on the subject, he speaks from personal experience with ADHD.

If you are wanting a deep dive yourself, this is an excellent choice. However, it would not be my first recommendation for a client because it feels more focused on the attachment piece, which is so important, but I think some understanding of what ADHD is and more practicality of how to work with it would be more helpful for a lot of my clients to start with.

For a more practical and research-driven read, you might like my review of ADHD 2.0.
