It’s been a long time since I’ve read the original trilogy. I did read Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes when it came out and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was and how well she weaved the prequel in with the originals. I wasn’t sure she could pull it off again, but I’d say she nailed it. This one follows Haymitch’s story through his Hunger Games win and adds a lot of context to his character. No surprises, it ends sad, but you should know that going in if you’re at all familiar with the series. I thought it was really well-written!
