Anthropocene: the current geological age, viewed as the period during which human activity has been the dominant influence on climate and the environment. John Green uses his downtime during the pandemic to reflect on humanity, growing up, ecology, and his own likes and dislikes. Green is so endearing I enjoyed spending time with him (he reads his own essays in the audio version). His thoughtful, and at times critical, take on a wide variety of topics kept me entertained while also teaching me about things I didn’t know I was interested in until he wrote an essay on it, such as Hiroyuki Doi’s Circle Drawings or the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest. My personal favorites were his thoughts on Super Mario Kart and Harvey. I’ve read Green’s YA novels and this was a fun detour and a glimpse into a creative mind.
