This book pops up on suggested reading lists all the time so I decided it was time I read it. It’s a coming of age YA novel, which is not usually my first choice, there are a few books in that genre that pleasantly surprise me though and this was one of them. It’s an epistolary novel with the reader learning about the main character, freshman Charlie, through his letters to a “friend”. Charlie is a loner and a deep thinker. He finds his way into a new friend group that accept him for his quirks that allows him to develop some self-confidence. It touches on some heavy topics with a light hand. It was charming and I was rooting for Charlie through the whole journey.
