I love reading a book that I know absolutely nothing about. That was The Rook for me. Myfanwy Thomas wakes up with no memories and a note with some short instructions to go off of. Turns out, she’s part of Britsh secret service that includes working with and protecting from, the supernatural. Myfanwy quickly learns that she has some powers of her own that she must learn to control all while trying to fit into her role as The Rook with no prior knowledge of why or how. As the book progresses, we learn alongside Myfanwy how the underground world of the supernatural in Britain (and America) works. All sorts of monsters, including vampires, emerge. It’s a fun ride. Felt like it got a little out of hand towards the end, but hey, I guess we were dealing with the supernatural the whole time so really, what did I expect?
