The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry

I loved this one! Even though I am a sucker for a good “bookstore setting” trope, they can sometimes feel a little fluffy (which I do enjoy when I am in the mood for it). This one, though, was not fluffy. It felt more literary and layered.

The story spans several years, which I loved because it let the relationships develop over time, especially as we see Maya grow up. It had more emotional depth than I expected and a real sense of heart.

It also felt very different from Zevin’s other book I have read, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, which I also loved but for totally different reasons. I liked the ending of this one too, it wrapped up in a way that felt both satisfying and sincere.

A heartfelt story for book lovers, with just the right balance of humor, melancholy, and hope.
