This was a book club pick—yet another reason I’m glad to be in a book club. I never would’ve picked this up on my own, but wow, it was so good.
It’s YA (which, as you know, isn’t usually my go-to genre), but it’s told beautifully. It’s a powerful story of trauma, redemption, and finding inner peace. We follow the main character, Cole, as he’s given an alternative to jail time for assault: surviving alone on a remote Alaskan island. As he fights for his life, we learn some important lessons right alongside him.
Very well done. I’d definitely recommend it.
